Update on Trade Cases

The US Commerce Department recently announced that it has terminated the administrative review of stainless steel wire rod from Taiwan. The company who had originally requested the review has now withdrawn its request. The administrative review had been scheduled to cover imports from Walsin Lihwa Corporation during ht period from September 1, 2003 through August 31, 2004.

As the result of this announcement, entries of stainless steel wire rod from Walsin during the period review will be liquidated at the dumping duty deposit rate in effect at the time of importation. That rate was 4.75%.

There are currently no pending administrative reviews of stainless steel wire rod from Taiwan.

The Department of Commerce also announced the final results of its administrative review of the antidumping order against carbon and alloy steel wire rod from Trinidad and Tobago. This review covered one producer/exporter - Caribbean Ispat Limited and its affiliates, Ispat North America and Walker Wire (Ispat) - during the period from April 10, 2002 through September 30, 2003.

The Department has calculated a final dumping margin of 3.61% and the Department's preliminary margin of 3.45%.

Effective March 15, 2005, the dumping duty deposit rate for Caribbean Ispat Limited and its affiliated companies will be 3.61%. In addition, the Department has calculated importer-specific dumping duty assessment rates, and it will instruct US Customs to liquidate entries that were made during the period of review at these rates.

The Department is conducting a subsequent administrative review of wire rod from Trinidad and Tobago, covering the period from October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004. Preliminary results are expected by the end of the year.
