The Annual Meeting, held at the Marco Island Marriott in Marco Island, Florida last February, once again broke attendance records. Over 262 members, potential members, spouses and guests attended industry meetings and the accompanying social events.
The speaker line-up included a plethora of interests and was very well received (see separate article). Committee meetings covered much ground with discussion on numerous topics. Spouses were treated to a full schedule of activities including an Art Gallery Tour in the thriving and diverse community of Old Naples.
The traditional AWPA sports day had something for everyone. 110 participants competed in the golf tournament held at the lovely Marco Island Marriott Resort and Golf Club. John Mueller, Laidlaw Corporation, Walt Robertson, Johnstown Wire Technologies Inc., Dan Russel, Kurt Orban Partners and Jim Wetter, Senco Products, Inc. won the member's top foursome award with a score of 64. Tim Becker, Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company, Yvonne Gell Winder, TI Industries, Inc., Tom Keller, Macsteel International, and Doug Sarver, Paramount Die Company placed second place with 65. The team of Suzanne Fort, Nancy Foust, Yoshcko Nakasone and Barbara Seling captured the spouse's prize at 75. Longest Drive awards were taken home by John Burnsworth, Florida Wire & Cable Company, and Yvonne Gell Winder, and the winners for closest to the pin were Curt Livermore, Laidlaw Corporation and Sharon Allegra.
The Marco Island Marriott tennis courts also saw some action. George Kurisky, Maryland Specialty Wire, Inc., took home the prize for men's first place and Jeff Feitler, Sumiden Wire Corporation, took second place. Carol Hufschmidt won women's first place with Heather Johnson coming in a close second. Our appreciation goes out to all of the supportive fans who came out to cheer on the tennis players this year. Florida brought us perfect weather especially for the fishing tournament, which was a huge success. Fishing tournament winners included: Largest Fish, Bob Fulop, Wire Lab Company; Most Fish, Marilyn Vicary; and First Fish, Mary Meyer. Congratulations to this year's champs!
A big thanks to all of the sporting chairs. Tim Dillon, Birmingham Steel, and John Foster, Ferostaal Incorporated, for their continuous leadership as well as Jan Sorige, Enkotec Company, Inc., who had a great first year as the tennis chair and who has already agreed to chair again next year! Thank you.
