Lane Gets Her Senate Hearing, Bush Announces New Nominee |
Charlotte Lane finally had her nomination hearing before the Senate Finance Committee to become a Commissioner with the International Trade Commission. Chairing the hearing was her friend Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV).
Also, on July 2 the White House announced President Bush's intention to nominate Daniel Pearson to be an ITC Commissioner. The appointment will be for a nine-year term that will expire on June 16, 2011. He would fill the seat of Lynn Bragg.
Pearson is currently Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs of Cargill, Inc. He has been a policy analyst in Cargill's public affairs department since 1987, focusing primarily on trade policy issues. In the 1980's Pearson was the agriculture legislative assistant to Senator Rudy Boschwitz.

The nomination of Pearson fulfills the demand of the top Republican on the Finance Committee Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) that the nominee for the second slot on the Commission go to an individual with an agricultural background. They had put a hold on Lane's confirmation until this was done.
