Time Is Running Out to Register for the AWPA Government Affairs Conference

September is fast approaching, and therefore time is running out to register for the AWPA Annual Government Affairs Conference being held September 8 - 10 in Washington, DC. This is not an event to miss!

Taking advantage of our Washington, DC locale this year, we will host House Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier (R-CA) who will address our group on what to expect from Congress during its second session in the trade arena. Coming on the heels of the Chile and Singapore FTA approvals, and right before the next round of multilateral trade negotiations being held in Cancun, Mexico, the timing could not be better for him to tell us what is next on the congressional calendar. How is the Foreign Sales Corporation (FSC) issue going to be fixed so that it is WTO-compliant? What about the Byrd Amendment? And how is Congress going to help the domestic manufacturing industry? All these questions, and more, will be answered.

Also joining us this year is Bill Primosch, the Director for International Business Policy for the National Association of Manufacturers. This organization is closely involved in the Doha negotiations, and lobbying for future free trade agreements. Hear his insight on what we can expect in 2004.

Finally, AWPA will be unveiling its updated set of economic statistics compiled from your responses to our Industry Identification Project. Learn how much the domestic wire and wire products industry contributes to our nation's economy. Then share these impressive statistics with your legislators as you go to Capitol Hill to express your concerns with lawmakers. Remember - they cannot take your views into mind when voting if they do not know what your views are.

Register today! For more information, go to the AWPA website at www.awpa.org.

Industry ID Surveys - Send Them In

AWPA sent out to every member company updated record forms, as well as the economic questions for our Industry Identification project. The responses to these questions are compiled and added together to obtain an aggregate dollar figure on the contribution our industry makes to the US economy.

Since we deliver these results to our legislators during the Government Affairs conference, we need to compile these numbers as soon as possible. Therefore, if you have not already submitted your data, please do so as soon as possible. Any company that is left out only results in our totals being lower and the true contributions that our industry makes minimized.

For more information on the surveys, or to determine whether your forms have been received, please contact the AWPA headquarters office.
