The Fall 1999 Operations manager's meeting will be held October 25 - 27 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This meeting will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel located 2 miles north of Will Rogers World Airport.
Due to the fact that we have many common operational interests and concerns, as well as member companies, we will be holding this meeting in conjunction with the Chain Link Fence Manufacturer Institute (CLFMI). The plant tour for this meeting will be held at the Southwestern Wire facility located in Norman, OK. Since Southwestern Wire is a member of both associations this meeting will provide a forum for the Operations Managers of both the AWPA and CLFMI to discuss operational issues of common interest and concern.
During the Southwestern Wire facility tour participants will have access to view the entire facility. Equipment in the facility consists of three wire drawers and a combination tight/gas wipe and class I and III strand galvanizing line. Fifteen chain-link fence machines, two operational bail-tie machines and a tension bar operation are also located on the site.
There will be two general sessions covering a variety of subjects. The general session on October 26th will concentrate on Bar Coding and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). This discussion will include discussion on how some member companies have implemented and benefited by introducing these concepts into their facilities. A subcommittee has been working with the North American rod producers on creating a standard barcode for rod. The results of this committee's work will be presented during the meeting on barcodes. On October 27th the general discussion will include the topics of die equipment and operational theory as well as a discussion on drawing lubricants.
Past meetings have presented excellent opportunities for managers to exchange insight and experiences on a wide variety of operational issues. With the addition of the CFLMI operations managers at this meeting we will have several fresh viewpoints on the meeting topics. We look forward to seeing everyone in Oklahoma City.
