Hit the Trail for Tucson
The Sheraton El Conquistador in Tucson, AZ, will be the location of the much-awaited 2002 AWPA Annual Meeting. Mark your calendar for February 24-27, 2002 and plan to join your friends and colleagues for business and fun in the sun.
Unable to gather in Washington this fall, there will be plenty to cover at the annual meeting including trade case updates as well as an all-important economic forecast which will be given by prominent economist, Gary Shilling.
In the forefront will be how all of the trade cases might affect the market. The President is scheduled to make his decision on the 201 trade cases in February. The announcement of countervailing duty margins on wire rod will take place in early February and likely the dumping margins not until March. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), a member of the important Commerce Committee, has been invited to address the AWPA members. Learn firsthand Congress' agenda on the international trade and economic fronts, including possible actions on trade law reform.
We will also have a speaker from the US Customs Steel Monitoring Center (SMC) to talk about the nuts and bolts of the revised TRQ program. The last week in February is a key time for you to gather with your colleagues and suppliers.
The Annual Meeting will feature traditional components of the General Session, Committee, Board and Business Meetings, and occasions to meet informally with friends and colleagues. On the evening of the Tuesday, February 26th, the AWPA will celebrate the Southwest with our theme party. This year western accessories are encouraged as we kick up our heels for the AWPA Western Rodeo Round-Up.
The AWPA website at www.awpa.org is your source for the latest information about this year's annual meeting. Once you are at the website, click on the Calendar of Events and the 2002 Annual Meeting. You will find a brief description of the meeting, a schedule of events, and biographies of the speakers as they are confirmed. Additional information will be added as we move closer to the dates of the meeting. Meeting materials will be mailed December 12th.
