President Clinton has designated Stephen Koplan as the new Chairman of the
International Trade Commission (ITC) for the term June 17, 2000 through June 16, 2002.
Koplan has served as a Commissioner since August 4, 1998, and will serve until June 16,
2005. He began his career as a prosecutor in the Tax Division of the Department of
Justice. Subsequently he served for six and one-half years as the Legislative
Representative for tax and international trade issues for the AFL-CIO.
The President also named Deanna Tanner Okun as the new Vice Chairman of the
Commission for the term June 17, 2000 through June 16, 2002. Okun has served as a
Commissioner since January 3, 2000, with her term expiring on June 16, 2008. Prior to
her ITC appointment, she served as counsel for international affairs to Senator Frank
Murkowski (R-AK) from 1993-1999, where she was responsible for international trade
issues.
