Steel Imports Down in April

Following President Bush's imposition of tariffs on foreign steel, the Commerce Department estimated that imports of steel fell 13.7% to 1.706 metric tons in April, a figure that was 29.3% lower than April 2001. In its final report for the first quarter, Commerce said steel imports had risen 19.9% to 7.46 metric tons from the same period a year ago.
