JUNE 1998  VOL. 8, NO. 2  WIRE '98 - DUSSELDORF The 7th International Wire and Cable Trade Fair, WIRE '98, took place in Dusseldorf, Germany from April 20 � 24, 1998. In all, 37, 275 visitors from 103 nations came to Dusseldorf in the course of the five day event, to take in the latest developments from the field of wire and machinery, spring production and metalworking. Exhibitors represented 1,045 companies from 45 countries. WIRE '98 marked AWPA's third consecutive exhibit at this international event. A highlight for the AWPA staff was the opportunity to offer visitors the option of immediate on-line searches for North American producers of wire, wire products and rod through the use of AWPA's web site which made its debut at the show. Participants expressed keen interest in this new tool which allows them to do their own search to identify companies that offer products they are interested in purchasing and, in most cases, to correspond directly with a sales contact for each company, all within the perimeters of the AWPA web site. For the visitors who are not yet connected to the internet or preferred personal assistance, AWPA staff offered forms which allowed representatives to simply check the information they needed. The searches were then completed, printed and distributed while still in Dusseldorf. Hundreds of corporate and product brochures provided by AWPA members were also distributed to attendees during the course of the week.
