Steel Industry Making Inroads-- The Administration is seriously considering a range of trade actions, including a Section 201 case, that would impose various barriers to protect the domestic steel industry, according to USTR Bob Zoellick
who recently testified on Capitol Hill. Section 201 of the 1974 Fair Trade
Act gives the president the authority to impose quotas, increase tariffs

OSHA Ergo Rule Rescinded by Congress-- Although AWPA reported in the last issue of WireLine on the availability
of a detailed report on how companies could comply with the far-reaching
OSHA Ergonomics rule, events unfolded last month that surprised us all!
Using a never-before tested legislative weapon, the US House of Representatives
and Senate both approved the use of the Congressional Review Act (CRA)
to repeal the recently promulgated OSHA Ergonomics Rule. On March 20, the
President signed the resolution into law. The CRA gives Congress the authority
to rescind regulations that are less than 60 days old, and bars federal
agencies from issuing similar regulations unless Congress specifically

EPA Conducting TRI Workshops-- The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting a series of
EPCRA/TRI Training workshops across the country during the spring of 2001.
These workshops are intended to assist persons preparing their annual reports
on releases and other waste management activities as required under sections
313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA).
These reports must be submitted to EPA on or before July 1, 2001. --Full Story--
