WirespoolEPA Begins Wastewater Examination--The Clean Water Act of 1977 requires EPA to publish wastewater effluent limitations guidelines and standards for various industries and industrial categories. WirespoolMaryland Specialaty Wire Hosts Congressman Ehrlick--Maryland Specialty Wire, Inc. (MSM) hosted Congressman Robert Ehrlich, Jr. (R-MD) on a plant tour in December of last year. WirespoolCooperative Compliance Program Stopped…For Now--As many AWPA member companies are probably aware, OSHA attempted to implement a new program called the OSHA Cooperative Compliance Program at the beginning of 1998. This program basically required employers with a Lost Workday Injury and Illness Rate of 7.0 or higher to join the program or be immediately placed on an automatic inspection list.  --Full Story--

WirespoolNAM Wins First Round In Lawsuit Against OSHA Over Coercive Program--A U.S. appeals court 2/17 embraced NAM arguments and temporarily blocked implementation of OSHA's Cooperative Compliance Program (CCP). The court will rule on its legality later this year.  --Full Story--

WirespoolAnti-Lead Initiatives Gain Steam Overseas--The Swedish Government has taken the lead in European efforts to regulate lead in the future. The Swedish Ministry of the Environment recently issued a report entitled "Towards a Sustainable Chemicals Policy." The Ministry advocates a policy, which calls for the elimination of lead, mercury, and cadmium, as well as any substance that may bioaccumulate or may give rise to serious effects on health or the environment.  --Full Story--
