MARCH 1998 VOL. 8, NO. 1 |
Maryland Specialaty Wire Hosts Congressman
Ehrlick |
Maryland Specialty Wire, Inc. (MSM)
hosted Congressman Robert Ehrlich, Jr. (R-MD) on a plant tour
in December of last year. The invitation followed a visit to
his office in Washington by VP Development, George Kurisky during
AWPA's Fall Meeting last September. Besides a tour of the plant,
Representative Ehrlich attended a round table discussion, which
focused on issues important to the wire industry. MSW stressed
the significant impact that foreign imports were having on the
industry in terms of lost business, depressed prices and reduced
profitability. Representative Ehrlich was very attentive to the
groups concerns and promised to support efforts in the future.
As part of an overall government
relations program, AWPA has stressed the importance of establishing
a relationship with member's legislators. Maryland Spring Wire
is one of a number of companies that has invited their representative
or senator on a plant tour to better educate him or her about
the wire industry. As 1998 is an election year, legislators will
be spending more time back in the district and state. This extra
time will provide a great opportunity to schedule a plant tour.
AWPA members can contact Government Relations Manager, David
Woodbury at AWPA Headquarters with questions or assistance in
holding this type of event.
