The American Wire Producers Association
(AWPA) will hold its 1998 Spring Operations Managers Meeting on
May 12 and 13, at the Kansas City Airport Marriott. The focus
of this meeting is issues of unionization; including defeating
union organization, managing union strikes, and the collective
bargaining process. These topics have consistently been rated
by you as a top priority. The plant tour will be hosted by Wire
Rope Corporation of America in Chillicothe, Missouri. Additionally,
optional tours of GST and Kuhar Metallizing Company are available
for an additional charge at the end of the meeting; see registration
materials for details.
WRCA will highlight their 300,000
square foot building which was constructed in 1994 and 1995 with
the first production in April 1995. At this location, WRCA Wire
produces high carbon wire with a wide variety of diameters, tensile
strengths, and coatings in spool and carrier packages. Diameters
for bright wire are produced from .010 to .500 and galvanized
wire up to .250
The production facilities include
an automated cleaning house, patenting line with inline cleaning
and coating, as well as a hot dip galvanizing line. In addition,
the plant is in the process of installing an automated data collection
system with bar coding for production reporting and inventory
control.
The AWPA Operations Managers Meetings
are designed to provide informative programs that will improve
your operations -- your support and participation are needed to
accomplish this goal. I encourage all operations managers to
take advantage of this opportunity to gain some insight into these
issues.
