AWPA Wireline - May 2003

The annual Government Affairs Conference will take place in Washington, DC at the Loews L'Enfant Plaza, September 8-10, 2003. Our close proximity to Capitol Hill will allow a Member of Congress, as well as other trade experts, to address our group. Additionally, our meeting is conveniently scheduled right before the next round of multilateral trade negotiations being held in Cancun during which trade remedy laws might be discussed. This will allow us to get up to the minute updates on the negotiations and how we might be able to impact the final agreement.

The afternoon of September 9th will be dedicated to Capitol Hill visits. Repeating our success from last year, participants will be delivering to their legislators important statistical information on the positive economic contribution the wire industry makes to the nation's economy, as well as to individual states.

To assist with our planning, please register early for the conference, especially if you are planning Capitol Hill visits. Congress will be in recess in August so early requests will be much appreciated. Online registration will be available in June!

In addition, we are also planning ahead for the 2004 Annual Meeting which will be held at the Westin Regina Resort and Spa in Los Cabos, Mexico, February 8-11, 2004. While Mexico will be a fascinating destination for our next meeting, international meetings require advance planning for both the association and the attendees. Please keep this in mind when planning for next February. You will be notified when registration is available which will be as early as October 2003. Los Cabos is located at the tip of Baja California and was selected for its easy access from anywhere in the US, Mexico and Canada.

The annual meeting will consist of our regular format which will include General Sessions, Committee, Board and Business meetings, and occasions to enjoy the reunion of friends and colleagues. Join us in beautiful Los Cabos!
