Jochum Appointed New Commerce Import Chief; Shiner to Deputy USTR

President Bush has nominated James Jochum to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Import Administration. He would replace Faryar Shirzad who moved to the White House to become Senior Director for International Economic Affairs at the National Security Council. Jochum had previously served as Majority Counsel for the US Senate Banking Committee and as Trade Counsel and Legislative Director for Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) who now serves as Senate Finance Committee Chairman.

Bush also nominated a former managing editor of the Washington Times to the post of deputy US Trade Representative - Josette Shiner. Shiner is currently associate USTR for Policy and Communications, and will replace Jon Huntsman who has overseen USTR activities in Africa and Asia since August 2001.
