On August 23, 2004, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-34-CA) visited the WireTech facility in Commerce, CA to discuss and gain insight on the status of the steel wire industry, both domestic and international. Roybal-Allard's district includes downtown Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, and nine southeast cities of Los Angeles County. In the discussions with the Congresswoman, WireTech representatives brought up issues pertaining to the current status of the US steel industry, foreign imports the tariffs and duties imposed on steel, labor issues pertaining to the steel industry, and the WireTech workforce. Following the discussion, company president Bill Hillpot, along with Garry Goodson (Vice President of Sales) and Simon Correa (Vice President of Production) conducted a company tour with Roybal-Allard which provided her with an opportunity to gain further knowledge of the "inner workings" of a steel wire processing mill.
