Tree Island Announces Retirement of CEO

Tree Island Wire announced the upcoming retirement of Ted Leja as President and Chief Executive Officer of Tree Island Industries. Daniel McAtee has been selected to succeed Leja later this year.

Leja joined Tree Island, one of North America's largest producers of wire and fabricated wire products, in 1992 as President and Chief Operating Officer. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 1997. At the request of the Board, Leja has agreed to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees following his retirement as CEO.

"Ted Leja is a remarkable leader who has more than tripled the company's revenues and enhanced its product lines, while dramatically improving every aspect of its operations," said Rod Senft, Chairman of the Board. "Through his intense focus on customer service, operating efficiency, profitability and fiscal prudence, Tree Island EBIT today is six times higher than when he started, equity has more than quadrupled, and long-term debt has been virtually eliminated." Ted also engineered Tree Island's successful transition from a private company to a publicly trade income fund in 2002.

Daniel McAtt was previously President of Tyco's A&E Products Group, a $200 million global plastic garment hanger company. Prior to joining Tyco, McAtee spent 18 years with General Electric where he held progressively senior management positions across five businesses.

Mr. Senft noted, "Dan McAtee is a highly experience business leader with a proven track record. His impressive leadership experience, technical background and extensive Six Sigma capability give him the tools to continue building on Tree Island's strong financial and operating performance."

Tree Island Industries produces a diverse range of products including nails, bright wire, stainless steel wire, galvanized wire, stucco reinforcing products, fence products and other fabricated wire products. Headquartered in British Columbia, the company markets these products under five highly respected brand names: Tree Island, K-Lath, Halsteel, Tree Island Wire and Industrial Alloys.
