Over 100 CEO's, presidents, and senior management came to Washington, DC to attend the AWPA Government Affairs Conference. As in the past, attendees went to Capitol Hill to meet with their legislators to discuss issues of importance to the domestic wire industry. AWPA's Executive Director Kimberly Korbel and Director of Government Affairs, Janet Kopenhaver, presented the preliminary results of the AWPA Industry Identification Project during the Conference General Session. The data, so far, are quite impressive. Over 80% of the AWPA membership, and several non-member companies responded completely or partially to the surveys which requested important information about company operations. We will continue efforts to obtain data from the remaining companies, as well as more non-members. The preliminary results are: Number of US wire and rod facilities = 155 Annual Sales = $7,649,527,000 Number of Employees = 26,348 Monthly Payroll = $38,265,674 Monthly Purchases = $205,482,839 Further, enough data was received to break out individual state reports for 16 states. This information is being shared with the legislators who represent these states.
