President Bush has designated Shara Aranof, a Democrat from Maryland, as Vice Chairman of the US International Trade Commission (ITC) for the term June 17, 2006 through June 16, 2008. Aranoff was appointed by Bush for the Commission term that will expire on December 16, 2012.

Prior to her appointment, Commissioner Aranoff was Senior International Trade Counsel on the Democratic staff of the US Senate Committee on Finance, where she was responsible for legislative and policy issues on international trade and investment; negotiations involving the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Free Trade Area of the Americas, and numerous free trade agreements; trade remedy laws; Trade Adjustment Assistance; and trade-related environment and labor issues.

The President also designated Daniel Pearson, a Republican from Minnesota, as Chairman of the ITC for the term June 17, 2006 through June 16, 2008. Pearson was nominated to the ITC by Bush and confirmed by the Senate on November 21, 2004, for the term ending June 16, 2011. He began by serving as a Commissioner on October 8, 2003, under a recess appointment.

Prior to his appointment, Pearson was Assistant Vice President of Public Affairs fro Cargill in Minneapolis, MN. His work focused primarily on trade policy issues, including the World Trade Organization agricultural negotiations, the efforts of China and other countries to join the WTO, the global "level playing field" initiatives for the oilseed sector, the US-Mexico sweetener dispute, and the effects of domestic agricultural policies on US competitiveness.

Finally, President Bush has submitted to the Senate the following nominations for the U.S. International Trade Commission:

Dean A. Pinkert of Virginia, for a term expiring December 16, 2015, to replace Jennifer Hillman.

Irving A. Williamson of New York, for a term expiring June 16, 2014, to replace Stephen Koplan.

Pinkert is currently in the Office of the Chief Counsel for Import Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce. He previously worked at King & Spalding, a law firm that generally represents petitioners in international trade cases.

Williamson is listed as a principal of Williamson International Trade Strategies, which appears to consult on sub-Saharan trade and investment matters. He also served as Deputy General Counsel of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative during the Clinton Administration.
