Commerce Affirms China as a Non-Market Economy

This week, the US Department of Commerce (Commerce) determined that China will continue to be considered a Non-Market Economy (NME) when calculating antidumping margins in trade cases.  US law requires that Commerce make this determination, based on six criteria, despite China’s assertion that they automatically receive market economy status on the 15th anniversary of their membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The American Wire Producers Association is a member of a coalition of leading manufacturing trade associations who are united in opposing China’s request to be granted market economy status.  See the statement issued by the coalition.
