AWPA Honors Legal Team for Many Years of Service and Support

At this year’s annual meeting, the American Wire Producers Association (AWPA) celebrated and expressed profound gratitude for the exceptional service and unwavering dedication of its longtime legal team, Fred Waite and Kim Young. For decades, AWPA has been exceptionally fortunate to have their expert legal counsel, steady guidance, and remarkably deep understanding of the challenges facing the wire industry. Their steadfast commitment and tireless advocacy have been instrumental in helping the association navigate complex trade issues, shape meaningful policy, and advocate powerfully for its members.

In recognition of his extraordinary years of outstanding service to AWPA and the industry, Fred Waite was presented with the Max Moore Award, the association’s highest and most prestigious honor.

This distinguished award commemorates the inspiring legacy of Max Moore, former owner and president of Oklahoma Steel and Wire and its affiliated companies, Southwestern Steel & Wire and Iowa Steel and Wire. Max was a beloved, dedicated, and enthusiastic leader, widely admired for his infectious passion for his business, his family, his employees, and his community. Elected to the AWPA Board of Directors in 1990, he served with distinction in numerous leadership roles throughout his tenure with the association. Though his life was tragically cut short in a plane crash in 2000, his visionary leadership and generous spirit continue to inspire and guide AWPA today.

Fred’s receipt of the Max Moore Award recognizes not only his exceptional legal expertise and consummate professionalism, but also the integrity, wisdom, and genuine commitment he has graciously brought to AWPA for so many years. His contributions have been truly transformational for the association.

Alongside Fred, Kim Young was also warmly honored for her dedicated and distinguished service. Kim’s remarkable diligence, thoughtful counsel, and collaborative partnership have been absolutely invaluable to AWPA’s leadership and membership alike. Together, Fred and Kim have been instrumental in ensuring that the association’s voice remains strong, informed, and deeply respected throughout the industry.

While we are genuinely saddened that Fred and Kim will be transitioning out of their role as AWPA counsel at the end of the year, AWPA extends its deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to them both for their many years of exemplary support and service. Their dedicated work has left an indelible and lasting mark on the association and the entire wire industry. They will be greatly missed, and their legacy will continue to benefit AWPA for years to come.
