Action Alert: Senate to Vote on Customs Bill with the ENFORCE Act!

Senate to Vote on Customs Bill with the ENFORCE Act! As soon as next Wednesday, February 10, the US Senate will vote on the Conference report of The Customs Reauthorization Bill – HR 644, the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015 – which contains the ENFORCE Act. Th US House of Representatives passed the bill, 256 to 158 on Friday, December 11. Please help by contacting your Senators about this important legislation.

The ENFORCE Act addresses the problem of foreign countries exporting products to the US and circumventing the antidumping (AD) and countervailing duties (CVD) on those products.  ENFORCE gives Customs and Border Protection (CBP) the tools to address the serious problem of duty evasion by countries that are illegally transshipping their products through third countries.

Please call your Senators TODAY and urge them to vote for the passage of the conference report on HR 644 that includes the ENFORCE Act.

Here are some talking points that you can use:

  • The Enforcing Orders and Reducing Customs Evasion (ENFORCE) Act will provide manufacturers in the United States which have been injured by unfair trade with an effective new enforcement tool to address the growing evasion of U.S. trade rules.
  • These provisions provide strong, transparent, time-limited procedures to ensure that evasion does not undermine US trade laws.
  • The United States is losing hundreds of millions of dollars each year in uncollected antidumping and countervailing duties.
